My Design Process
I believe UX design is not linear. It’s iterative and agile.
The process is like cooking…
- Follow the recipe.
- Tweak the recipe to the desired taste.
- Make the recipe your own.
Empathize
Conduct research in order to develop knowledge about what end users do, say, think, and feel.
Define
Combine all research and observe where the end users’ problems exist. In pinpointing users’ needs, begin to highlight opportunities for innovation.
Ideate
Brainstorm a range of crazy, creative ideas that address the unmet user needs identified in the define phase. In this phase, no idea is too farfetched. Quantity supersedes quality.
Prototype
Build real, tactile representations for a subset of your ideas. Understand what ideas work and which do not. Begin to weigh the impact vs. feasibility of ideas through feedback on prototypes.
Test
Return to end users for feedback. Ask “Does this solution meet users’ needs?”
and “Has it improved how they feel, think, or do their tasks?”
Implement
Put the design vision into effect. Ensure that the solution is built to spec and truly delights the end users.
